We are blessed to live in a nation where the rule of law is upheld, and where the democratic process permits all citizens to express their opinions and views.  We each have an interest in maintaining these freedoms.  The ancient philosopher Aristotle is credited with observing that “all who have meditated upon the art of governing mankind, have been convinced that the fate of empires depends upon the education of youth.”

I believe that the education of our youth is an issue worthy of our most fervent attention and significant focus.  We need leaders who will focus on the interests of our children, and not become distracted by issues which compromise the educational opportunities we can provide.  The proper education of our children will produce productive and law abiding members of our community, a stronger economy, and will secure the continuation of sacred freedoms.

My campaign slogan, “Excellence for our Future” encapsulates the important idea that our children deserve excellent leadership, and excellent results.  Our students need excellent teachers and mentors who can provide extraordinary opportunities for growth.  Challenges will certainly come, but excellence must be our goal.  Our children have only a short time to prepare themselves, and we cannot be satisfied with mediocrity. 

As a parent with children in our schools, I share many of the same beliefs and concerns as the other parents in the district.  We all have a vested interest in seeing our children achieve success.  Without question, we already have the tools to make our schools some of the best in the nation.  We have excellent teachers and a close knit community.  We need to continue challenging our students by teaching them important skills, and we need to keep our standards high so each student can reach their full potential.  Our students must learn that they have the capability to make a significant difference in the lives of others, our Nation and the world.  If we can teach our children to see their potential, we will see a huge change in our community.

It is not enough to attain good test scores.  Our children should learn that they can do amazing things if they work hard enough.  But it is not only about our children working hard, it is about families and community working hard together to provide our kids with all the support and tools they need to reach their potential.

I believe that my experience as a parent and as an attorney will provide a strong foundation for helping to resolve the difficult problems which come before the board of trustees.  If elected to the Board I pledge to make financially responsible decisions, listen carefully to the concerns of each person in the district, and always remember that the most important asset of our community is our children.
