About Jacob
Jacob Sommer is pleased to announce his candidacy for Churchill County School Board of Trustees. While he has many interests and passions, Sommer describes himself, first and foremost, as a family man who loves to spend time with his wife and children.
Sommer was raised in Provo, Utah where he attended Timpview High School. In his early twenties he met his wife, Kara Lynne Jones. He completed his undergraduate studies at Utah Valley University where he was nominated for scholar of the year for his work on the History department’s academic journal. Sommer majored in History, graduated from the honors program and was selected as the valedictorian of his class. After Sommer was offered a full scholarship to attend the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he moved his family to Nevada where he earned his Juris Doctorate and worked for the Federal Government.
In 2006 Sommer and his family were living in Las Vegas and he traveled to Reno to appear in court for a client. Afterward he drove to Fallon and was overwhelmed by the uncommon cordiality of everyone he met. Sommer knew that Fallon was an excellent place to raise his growing family. Later that year, after accepting a position with the District Court, Sommer moved Kara and the kids to Fallon, and in 2007 he opened his law practice.
Sommer and his wife Kara have three children, 7, 10, and 11. Among other things, Sommer enjoys fly-fishing, backpacking, road biking, reading, gardening, and learning to shoot trap.
